Beginner Classes

We offer beginner fencing classes for

  • youth, ages 8 to 14
  • adults, ages 13 and up
  • homeschool youth (ages 8-18) and their parents

 

These classes start the week of January 13th.  Details on each class are below.   You can register for a class by filling out the student information and waiver form.  If none of these times/days work for you, we also offer private lessons and small group classes.  Please contact us for more information on these lessons.

We also offer a free, one-hour Introduction to Fencing lesson which is scheduled by appointment.  See the button on the left side of the screen to contact us about scheduling this lesson.  

 

Youth Beginner (ages 8-14) - Modern Fencing

Students will be taught basic footwork techniques and the rules of fencing. Blade techniques will be taught using plastic weapons that are safer and easier for the children to handle.  Metal swords will be introduced after the students have gained confidence with their bladework.  All three weapons (foil, epee, and saber) will be taught so that the student may decide the style that works best for her.

The Youth Beginner class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 pm to 6 pm.  The semester starts Tuesday, January 14th.  Students in this class may also attend the open fencing times.

The cost for this class is $100 per month per student, not including any necessary equipment (the school has loaner equipment available to reduce equipment costs).  Discounts are offered for two or more students from one family.

 

Home School Beginner (ages 8-18) - Modern Fencing

It is similar to the youth classes only during the day. Parents are invited to participate if they are interested. Students need not be home schooled, but do need to have coach’s approval to participate. This class is for the beginning fencing student.

This class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 pm to 3 pm.  The semester starts Tuesday, January 14th.  Students in this class may also attend the open fencing times.

The cost for this class is $100 per month per student, not including any necessary equipment (the school has loaner equipment available to reduce equipment costs).  Discounts are offered for two or more students from one family.

 

Adult Beginner (ages 13 and up) - Modern Fencing

Students are taught basic footwork and blade work techniques. Students will also learn the rules of fencing and how to compete in tournaments. All three weapons (foil, epee, and saber) will be taught so that the student may decide the style that works best for him.

The Adult Beginner class is offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 7 pm. The semester starts Monday, January 13th.   Students in this class may also attend the open fencing times.

The cost for this class is $100 per month per student, not including any necessary equipment (the school has loaner equipment available to reduce equipment costs).  Discounts are offered for two or more students from one family.

 

Historical Fencing (ages 15 and up)

Historical Fencing is for ages 15 years old and up.  Students will be taught footwork and blade techniques from historical manuals. Students will use a variety of historical replica weapons that the school provides. Students will also learn the use of a variety of offhand/secondary weapons that are also provided by the school.

This group class is held on Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  The semester starts on Wednesday, January 15th.  Historical open fencing immediately follows at 8:30 pm. 

The cost for this class is $60 per month per student.  Discounts are offered for 2 or more students from the same family.

Free Intro Lesson

Red Stick School of Fencing offers a free one-hour introduction to fencing lesson for people that are 7 years old and up. We can also do this lesson for a family or group of people. The lesson is by appointment only and we will work with you to find a day and time that works best for everyone.
